PUBLIC servants have a term to describe movements within departments transitioning under a new government - "moging".
Department of Social Services deputy secretary Felicity Hand used the term during a Senate estimates hearing when describing the process of staff and money being transferred from one department another.
Assistant Social Services Minister Mitch Fifield said he had recently learnt of the term, which refers to "machinery of government" changes.
Labor senator Claire Moore said she liked the word and had added to her lexicon.
The department has lost its responsibilities for indigenous affairs but picked up aged care.
The hearing in Canberra continues on Thursday.
