Newly-released figures show recidivism is increasing in the ACT.
The recidivism rate considers repeat convictions for criminal offenders within two years.
The Justice and Community Safety annual report shows in 2009-10 the recidivism rate for prisoners returning to detention in the ACT was 41 per cent, which increased to 47 per cent in 2010-11.
The rate for former prisoners returning to any form of corrections supervision also rose from 56 per cent to 58 per cent.
Corrective Services blames the way former prisoners, particularly men, are supervised after release.
It says higher supervision in a smaller jurisdiction like the ACT leads to higher detection of re-offending.
The recidivism rate for offenders previously on community based orders fell across the two years.
