Jamie's Italian opens next week for invited customers and the week after that to the public.
Jamie Oliver will not be here, and no opening party is planned, but a series of lunches and dinners will be held next week for community groups invited by the Pacific Restaurant Group, which has the rights to the chain in Australia.
Information about Jamie's Italian has been tightly controlled, with still no details such as opening hours.
There is no phone number nor a way to book, but a spokeswoman confirmed it would certainly be open by November 6.
Rather than political or business leaders, the soft-opening lunches and dinners will be for sport clubs, disadvantaged groups and a cross-section of the community, grassroots people "who would be appreciative of the offer".
A couple of menu items are available and the order must include a pasta, with people charged "a smallish price".
The soft opening allows the 100-odd staff to ensure they are ready for the public opening.
One confirmed invitee is National Multicultural Festival director Nic Manikis, who tried to get Oliver to Canberra for the festival in February.
Jamie's Italian is in Bunda Street, in the Canberra Centre below the Dendy Cinema. It is one of about 30 Jamie's Italian restaurants around the world, and the third in Australia after Sydney and Perth.
Head chef is Australian-born, New Zealand-trained Nick Haszard.
Pacific Restaurant Group managing director Adam Heathcote and executive chef of Jamie's in Australia David Clarke will appear during opening week.
