Drugs, machete, Taser seized from Canberra home - ABC Online

A 52-year-old Canberra woman will face court on multiple drug charges after police seized $20,000 worth of cannabis from her home.

ACT police searched the Richardson home on Monday after an anonymous tip-off, seizing 1.1 kilograms of cannabis and 10 cannabis plants.

The woman will be charged with multiple drug and weapon offences after officers also found a machete, capsicum spray and a home made Taser.

Detective Sergeant Shane Scott says if used, the Taser could have been fatal.

"Due to the nature of illicit drug dealing, quite often the people who are responsible for that try and protect their business by using weapons," he said.

"That might range from a firearm, might range from a knife and could range to an improvised Taser device such as we located.

"By targeting drug dealers, we're also hoping to prevent the commission of other, more violent offences."

Detective Sergeant Scott says there could be many more operations of a similar scale in Canberra.

"This sort of thing can happen in any neighbourhood on any street and whilst not being a bit operation as such, it's still generating income for those people responsible for it," he said.
