NRL: Canberra Raiders hand Brisbane Broncos third straight loss - Yahoo!7 News

Brisbane fell to its third defeat on the trot as a blue-garbed Canberra outfit rolled the visitors 30-18 in chilly conditions in the nation's capital on Monday night.

The Green Machine was anything but that as the hosts ran out in an alternative strip to commemorate the centenary of the Australian Capital Territory.

But the insipid Broncos were the only ones with the blues as Anthony Griffin's men failed to generate much momentum in the first 40 minutes and looked directionless.

Interchange forward Mitchell Dodds scored his first career try with four minutes left to add some respectability to the scoreline of an otherwise lacklustre Broncos performance.

Second-rower Matt Gillett scored a second-half try that gave Brisbane a sniff but Canberra still had a 12-point buffer and showed no signs of letting it go.

The Raiders had raced out to a 24-6 half-time advantage thanks to four-pointers from Josh McCrone, Joel Thompson, Jarrod Croker and Edrick Lee.

The Broncos went close to being blanked in the first half before veteran playmaker Scott Prince crossed in the shadows of the break.

The result pushes the Raiders into eighth and leaves Brisbane for dead in 11th place just weeks after the Broncos were sitting comfortably inside the top half of the ladder.

In disappointing news for David Furner's outfit, five-eighth David Campese and Queensland Origin squad member Josh Papalii were both placed on report.

Canberra: 30 (J McCrone, J Thompson, J Croker, E Lee, J Edwards tries; J Croker 5/5 conversions)

Brisbane: 18 (S Prince, M Gillett, M Dodds tries; S Prince 3/3 conversions)
