Raiders' ladies get behind Mother's Day Classic Walk - Canberra Raiders

Raiders’ ladies get behind Mother’s Day Classic Walk

The ladies contingent of the Canberra Raiders will be assisting to raise funds for Breast Cancer Research by representing the club in the Mother’s Day Classic Walk on Sunday before the game against the Newcastle Knights at Canberra Stadium.

The event involves a 5km and 10km walk and run around Commonwealth Park however if running and walking isn't your thing you can still join in the fun of the day by volunteering to help out.

Alternatively, you can come along and support all walkers and runners and join in on the entertainment and activity taking place around the course. All participants are in the running for spot prizes, given out around the course on the day.

Kellie Furner, wife of Raiders Coach David, and Trish Williams, mother of star halfback Sam, helped to organise the ‘Lady Raiders – Tackle a Cure Team’ and are thoroughly looking forward to the day.

“We’ve organised a group of Raiders mums, wives, partners and sisters for the Mother’s Day Classic Walk to help raise awareness for Breast Cancer and raise valuable funds for the essential research involved with the disease,” said Furner.

“We’ve called our group ‘Lady Raiders – Tackling a Cure’ and there are about 20 of us that will be doing the walk along with Victor the Viking who has been kind enough to join us.

“It should be a good start to the morning and a great way to raise funds for a worthwhile cause. We’ll do the walk in the morning and then we’ll all head out to the Raiders game and enjoy a nice meal there.”

Women in Super is also celebrating Canberra's 100th birthday at this year’s event by recognising 100 fundraisers who have been touched by breast cancer.

To be part all you have to do is be one of the first 100 to register and fundraise $100 or more. Men and women can be part of the program. Fernwood Fitness is offering a tailored fitness program including a weekly outdoor training session starting on the weekend of 16 and 17 March. All female participants will receive a free 3 month gym membership – males can pass this on to a family member.

Participants will also enjoy VIP status and be eligible to win a range of prizes.
