Huawei Heritage Round Junior Relay - Canberra Raiders

Huawei Heritage Round Junior Relay

The Canberra Raiders, in partnership with our proud Major Sponsor Huawei, are conducting a mass promotion with the 15 Junior Clubs from the region at the Raiders v Warriors match this Saturday evening as part of the NRL’s Heritage Round.

Huawei will be generously giving away $1,000 cash in prize money for the winners of the Huawei Heritage Round Junior Relay with $500 awarded for first place, $300 for second and $200 for third.

The Raiders were born out of the local competition from the Queanbeyan United Club back in 1981 and the current premier local competition is known as the “Canberra Raiders Cup”.

To commemorate the origins of the Raiders, there will be Local Club registration stalls set up in the Stadium Concourse area when patrons first enter Canberra Stadium.

Many of the club’s current stars have progressed to the NRL from the local competition such as Captain Terry Campese and last year’s top point scorer Jarrod Croker.

“The origins of the Canberra Raiders are derived from the local competition and I’m happy to say that the local competition still plays a part in the club today,” said Campese.

“Local juniors such as Jarrod and I played our junior football in the region and we’re really passionate about seeing local competition continue to thrive.

“We’re fortunate to have such a terrific sponsor in Huawei who have got right behind the initiative.”

Huawei have thrown their support behind the Huawei Heritage Round Junior Relay which will take place at halftime of the NRL match.

All 15 of the local junior clubs will be taking part in the Huawei Heritage Round Junior Relay with age groups including boys and girls from Under 6’s right through to Under 16’s.

Whilst the Huawei Heritage Round Junior Relay is being run, a big screen promotion of each junior club will be taking place.

The local referees will also be in attendance to ensure that there are clean changeovers in the relay and further promote the refereeing system in the region.
