The Newcastle Knights have recorded back to back home ground victories with an impressive 28-12 win over Canberra yesterday.

Halfback Tyrone Roberts starred for Newcastle, who were trailing the Raiders by two at the break, when he side-stepped the defence to score a vital try and sparked Newcastle's comeback.

The Knights scored 18 unanswered points in the second half to secure the victory.

Roberts says it was a strong performance from the entire team.

"I've been working on it for a while now, and it's coming good in my game," he said.

"Yeah, the boys are listening and it's good to get them going forward and get them to do the right things and it works well in the end."

Newcastle's win came despite losing captain Kurt Gidley to a head injury early in the game.

Gidley suffered a concussion in the first half and missed the rest of the game.

Prop Adam Cuthbertson scored a double for the Knights and says hard work in the pre-season is paying off.

"Yeah, it was good, it was definitely a good game to be part of," he said.

"Glad we could get back to back wins now.

"I've been working hard in the pre-season, put on a few more kilos, just to add a bit more footwork, a bit more power to my run.

"Anyone could have scored (that try) I just pushed up in the right spot, I was just lucky to be there at the time."

In a blow for the Knights, coach Wayne Bennett has confirmed that backrower, Beau Scott will need surgery for a groin injury and will miss up to 12 weeks.
