Beware any referendum designed to spread your tax dollar further - The Australian

THERE are three things Australians know about politicians. The first is they want your money. The second is they can be pretty sneaky getting it. Probably, the third is that when both parties look like agreeing, something very expensive and very sneaky is around the corner.

So hold on to your wallets if both parties come peddling a harmless-sounding amendment to the Constitution so Canberra can give "financial assistance" to local government.
