THE Liberal Party has not yet adopted optional preferential voting as its official policy -- but it probably will. When it does it will tell us that it objects to "conscripted voting". It will then be asked to explain why it has taken 70 years to find this new moral stance. It would be unwise to change its long-standing position, which is to support the full preferential vote.
