Bendigo bounce back after WNBL boilover - Ninemsn

Bendigo dropped the first game of their Queensland road trip, but recovered to down Logan 69-61 on Sunday and stay a game clear atop the WNBL ladder.

Bendigo trailed at every break bar the one that matters, with their third loss of the season on the cards when they were down by five points at the start of the fourth quarter.

But the indefatigable visitors, who were shock losers on Friday night in Townsville, outscored Logan 24-11 in the final term to show why they're No.1 on the ladder.

Townsville (7-6) underlined their finals credentials and claimed fourth spot on the ladder with a spirited 56-52 win over Bendigo, making it four wins from their past five games.

The result was just as useful for defending champions Dandenong (11-3), who are now one win behind pace-setting Bendigo (12-2).

Rather than celebrate, Dandenong coach Mark Wright noted the upset underlined the evenness of the competition and that no result can be taken for granted.

"It just reinforces that if you don't play your best all the time, there's a good chance you can lose," said Wright, whose side have not lost a game this season apart from their three defeats to Bendigo.

"And that goes for everyone, the league is so even.

"Bendigo has now had two losses to teams that most people expected them to beat ... every game is every chance in the world (to go either way) and we need to be aware of that."

Dandenong enjoyed a crushing 102-79 triumph over Sydney (4-10) on Saturday night, with Jenna O'Hea tallying 35 points including four three-pointers.

"I'm happy that we got the win going into the break, when the opposition comes off a game the night before you have got to take advantage of that. And in the end fatigue kicked in," Wright said.

"Like everyone, we've got a few players carrying a few issues and the break will mean everyone can freshen up mentally and physically.

"I'm not sure a three-week break is the best thing, but is it what is and we'll take it."

West Coast (3-12) recorded their third win of the season on Friday night, a 75-62 victory over Canberra (5-9), while Sydney were 79-75 winners over Bulleen (7-7) in game one of their Victorian road trip.

In Sunday's other match, third-placed Adelaide (9-4) defeated Canberra 70-52 despite being without the services of star centre Suzy Batkovic and New Zealand point guard Angela Marino.
