An inquiry into the construction industry has found at least one injury occurs on Canberra's construction sites every day.
There have been four workplace deaths in Canberra over the past 12 months, prompting the ACT Government to commission an inquiry into practices in the construction sector.
Looking at compensation data, the report has found that the ACT had a higher rate of serious claims in the last 12 months than all states except Tasmania.
For claims serious enough to require 12 weeks or more off work, the ACT leads the nation, ranking above all other jurisdictions.
The longer a worker stays in the industry, the higher their risk of serious injury.
Report data found that one in 40 workers in the sector will get an injury at work that leads to them being off work for at least a week.
The report's authors say the figures do not provide comfort for families wanting to see their loved ones return home safe every day.
The full findings of the inquiry into practices in the construction industry will be handed down later today.
