Royals in Canberra as tour wraps up - Yahoo!7 News

William and Kate are wrapping up their Australian tour in our national capital.

William and Kate will return to London tomorrow afternoon after their 19-day tour of Australia and New Zealand.

They're finishing their trip in our national capital from where Sophie Hull joins us now.

Hello, Sophie.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will leave Canberra a little greener?

Hello, Ann.

Yes, they will - they've planted a tree this morning - an English oak - at the National Arboretum in Canberra.

This is our youngest national institution.

The arboretum is home to nearly 50,000 trees already, and the English oak planted by the royal couple this morning will add to that.

It's been set here to reforest the area after the devastating bushfires that tore through here in 2003.

They were watched on by 50 lucky locals who won a place in a ballot and assisted by local twins, Oliver and Sebastian, who helped them plant the tree officially by shovelling a bit of dirt and pouring some water on the spot there.

Looks like it was another successful appearance.

And they have a full schedule right up until they leave tomorrow afternoon?

Absolutely, Ann.

They're packing as much as they can into this last day or two in the nation's capital.

From here, they've moved on already.

They've gone to a lunchtime reception at Parliament House in the Great Hall, hosted by Prime Minister Tony Abbott.

Prince William will make a speech there.

Then they're onto the Portrait Gallery this afternoon, before heading to a formal evening reception at Government House tonight, which will be our first and only chance to see the Duchess in eveningwear in Australia.

And Seven will have live coverage of the Parliament House reception for the royals
