A Canberra lecturer has been charged with 42 new child sex offences, after he was caught in an international sting.

The man in his 60s was first arrested in September.

His involvement in the international ring was revealed last week, after Canadian authorities announced there had been 386 arrests world wide, 65 of them in Australia.

At first, the man was linked to the child exploitation website through invoices, but after a raid on his home police discovered child abuse images involving two children, one under 10 and the other over 12.

The man has been in jail since his arrest and appeared briefly in the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday to be charged.

The new charges include an act of indecency and using a child to produce pornography.

He has not entered any pleas.

The man remains in custody and is expected back in court in December.
