SES busy as wild winds hit Canberra - Yahoo!7 News


Emergency crews are fielding calls for help as wild weather hits the Canberra region.


The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for damaging winds as a strong cold front moves across the ACT and surrounding region.


Wind gusts up to 100 kilometres per hour are possible throughout the day.


So far wind gusts of 74 kilometres per hour have been recorded in Canberra, while in Goulburn gusts have topped 95 kph.


The State Emergency Service has received calls to help fix roof damage at a Stromlo property, remove a tree which fell on a car at Cook, and clear trees and branches fallen across roads and pathways.


Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve has been closed until further notice due to the high winds. The visitor centre remains open.
