The Birthday Party were just one of many interstate bands that toured the capital in those days and found talented local bands and a committed and appreciative crowd.
Many histories of the punk years in Australia have forgotten to look at Canberra despite some of the great music and musicians that came out of there.
The Young Docteurs and "****,****" (cough cough) are two such groups. They captured the imaginations of many in the ACT during the late 70s and then went on to win over interstate crowds into the 80s.
RareCollections recently relived some of those days with Young Docteurs vocalist Chris Shakallis and "****,****" bassist Allan Coop. Both are involved in chronicling the scene in a new book and exhibition called Head Full Of Flames which will be launched in Canberra at CMAG on the 27th September.
