REFORMED NRL bad boy Wendell Sailor has urged the Broncos to sign Josh Dugan, insisting the club's leaders can tame the axed wildchild.

Former NSW fullback Dugan, 22, was sacked by Canberra last week after adding to a long list of indiscretions by drinking while injured and arguing with Raiders coach David Furner.

The Broncos, Titans, Dragons and Panthers have since been linked to the talented Dugan.

But Sailor, who admitted to alcohol problems during his career, says Red Hill figureheads Sam Thaiday and Corey Parker would be the ideal role models for the wayward Dugan.

"He'd be a good fit anywhere with his personality but I think you need a strong leadership group. The Broncos have a strong leadership group," Sailor told Triple M.

"If I'm confident in my leadership and confident in my playing group (then I'd sign him).

"Sam Thaiday is a very good leader. I've seen him mature.

Brisbane bound? Dugan set for Broncs' cheers

"Corey Parker does a really good job there. Not too many players step out of line and when they do we've seen over a period of time no one is too big for the Broncos and if you think you are, see you later."

While Canberra's fishbowl has been blamed as being behind his party lifestyle, Sailor says a chance for redemption ultimately rests with Dugan.

"Everywhere you go there's going to be the bright lights," Sailor said.

"But the buck's got to stop with you."

The NRL must decide whether to register Dugan, with Canberra filing a "dirt dossier" in a bid to prevent the fullback signing with a rival club.

Todd Carney and Greg Bird have previously been temporarily forced from the NRL after being charged with various offences.

But Sailor says "he hasn't done anything illegal" and called on the NRL to register Dugan.
