Australia's Shane Watson has scored a classy century to help set the West Indies a massive target of 330 in their third one-day clash at Canberra's Manuka Oval.

Australia finished their 50 overs at 7-329 in front of a sellout crowd just under 12,000.

In his first innings back since injury, Watson constructed his patient century at just under a run a ball, before putting his foot down on the accelerator to finish at 122 off 111.

Watson's downfall came when he holed out to Kieron Pollard at deep backward square leg off the bowling of Kemar Roach.

His dismissal followed a flourish of boundaries, including one six measured at 114m - the biggest recorded this summer.

Phillip Hughes (86) fell short of his third one-day century of the summer when he was caught behind off the bowling of captain Darren Sammy.

Aaron Finch (38) and Michael Clarke (15) both failed to capitalise on steady starts.

Million dollar man Glenn Maxwell (4) looked to be the man to bring Australia home with his big hitting before he was caught by Pollard one handed in one of the all-time great boundary-rope catches.

The ball looked to be heading for a certain six before Pollard leapt up, plucked the ball out of the air, and rolled back onto the earth just centimetres from the rope.

He pulled off a similarly impressive vertical leap just two overs later when he dismissed George Bailey, who backed up Sunday's match-winning century with 44 off just 22 balls.

Sunil Narine returned the best bowling figures for the visitors with 2-55 off 10 overs.

Australia are 2-0 after a double-header in Perth and the West Indies must chase down the big total to keep the series alive.
