Shorten hits the common ground running - The Australian

MUCH of what Bill Shorten does best is seen by few but eventually felt by many. In Shakespearean terms, that is his professional strength and greatest personal liability.

In the public sphere, he has a reputation as a Labor powerbroker, a feared, union-backed mob boss with a string of hits to his name, from lowly Victorian MPs to Bonnie Prince Kevin. Like few others in Canberra, Shorten, 45, is perceived to be a cocksure, youthful politician with an over-weening ambition.
