WAYNE Swan has vowed to block an overhaul of state healthcare by the Queensland government, claiming it would pave the way for privatising public hospitals and undermine Medicare.
The Treasurer turned up the heat in Canberra's battle with the conservative-led states by declaring the federal government would do "everything we possibly can" to stop Queensland enacting a blueprint for hospital reform unveiled yesterday.
