ACTU secretary Dave Oliver will today unveil plans to mobilise hundreds of thousands of union members in the nation's marginal seats in the lead up to the September poll, calling on Julia Gillard and Tony Abbott to support job security proposals that include enshrining penalty rates in law.
But the Gillard government is understood to be lukewarm on the union movement's penalty rate campaign, senior figures saying last night it wants to leave responsibility for setting penalty rates to the Fair Work Commission.
