Hundreds of students are celebrating after receiving main round offers for courses at Canberra universities.

Hopeful students went online from 9:00pm Wednesday to check if they had received an offer through the Universities Admission Centre.

The University of Canberra has made about 1,600 main round offers, on top of 900 early offers, which is roughly on par with last year.

The most popular courses include bachelors of education, nursing, science in psychology and arts.

New courses for 2013 include bachelors of physiotherapy, pharmacy, and gender and diversity.

UC deputy vice-chancellor Professor Nick Klomp says student numbers are expected to be up about 4.6 per cent on last year's record 14,114.

The Australian National University has released more than 1,600 offers, plus about 1300 early offers, with strong demand for new combined bachelor and masters degrees.

Prospective students who have missed out so far can change their course preferences before late and final round offers are released in coming weeks.
