Law fails to catch smuggler kingpins - The Australian



JUST two of almost 100 people prosecuted for people-smuggling offences last year were found to have organised the venture.



In fresh evidence that most convicted people-smugglers are vulnerable boat crew rather than syndicate leaders, the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecution has confirmed that of the 95 people-smuggling prosecutions successful last year, only two related to criminals who were found to have organised risky boat trips to Australia.
