Julia Gillard's push for Nova Peris sets off week of brawls - The Australian

LABOR faces a week-long brawl over Julia Gillard's "captain's pick" of Nova Peris as a Senate candidate, amid a torrent of outrage from the Northern Territory over the dumping of incumbent Trish Crossin and anger in key elements of the party's Left faction.

As the party's national executive unanimously endorsed the Prime Minister's request to make Ms Peris a member of the party and accept her nomination for preselection for the Territory Senate candidacy next week, Senator Crossin said she would also nominate and there was speculation indigenous politician Marion Scrymgour might also enter the race.
