DESPITE government claims of a $1 billion increase in university support, real funding per student increased by only $90 between 2004 and 2011, with total resources per individual undergraduate essentially unchanged from 1996, according to an analysis of higher education finances by the Group of Eight universities released yesterday.
"The sector is not doing much better than standing still, when all costs and revenues are considered," the paper warns.
