Tariff to counter shock energy bills - The Australian

HOUSEHOLDS will be offered a "default" flat electricity tariff to protect them from any financial disadvantage caused by a rollout of time-of-use charging, under the electricity reform scheme Julia Gillard will put to the states on Friday.

The measure, to be put at a Council of Australian Governments meeting, is designed to counter state government fears that low-income earners will be disadvantaged when time-of-use meters are rolled out, while offering flexibility to electricity users who can take advantage of time-of-day pricing.
