IT was a folk festival, but Julia Gillard received a rock star welcome yesterday, as she struck a chord with the free spirits at Woodford.
At the annual folk festival north of Brisbane, Ms Gillard mingled with street performers, hippies and holidaying families in the Queensland sun, and urged them to embrace change and be optimistic about the future. It was her first visit to the festival, now in its 27th year, and also the first by a serving prime minister.
