Raiders push to redevelop Braddon club site - ABC Online

The Canberra Raiders want to demolish their licensed club at Braddon and build a residential and retail complex.

The Braddon Club has been operating on its current site since the 1980s and has been part of the Raiders' wider group of licensed premises since 2005.

The proposed plan involves knocking down the club to make way for a mixed-use development which would include about 160 residential apartments, offices, shops and restaurants.

The neighbouring rugby league fields would remain.

Documents lodged to the ACT Planning and Land Authority (ACTPLA) suggest the poker machines at the club would be moved to the Raiders' other gaming venues.

The Raiders hold the site on a concessional basis which the ACT Government must agree to change to allow the development.

A planning authority spokeswoman says the Government must first consider whether the plan meets a public interest test before it can proceed to the approval process.
