Claims child porn in Canberra's jail - ABC Online

Police are investigating the alleged use of child pornography by prisoners in Canberra's jail.

Detectives searched the jail on Tuesday.

They seized several items, including computers and video recorders, suspected to contain images of child abuse.

Digital forensic specialists have been called in to examine the devices.

Corrections Minister Shane Rattenbury says a number of detainees are under investigation.

"It's clearly a very disturbing allegation and one we'll be working very hard to resolve," he said.

Police have not yet confirmed whether any charges have been laid.

Mr Rattenbury says Corrective Services are awaiting the results of the investigation before taking further steps.

"Once police have completed their investigation and we have a sense of whether there has been a security breach here and whether we have operational issues in the jail, clearly we will be reflecting on what changes may need to be made to any protocols in place at the Alexander Maconochie Centre," he said.
