Build defence bridge to Indonesia - The Australian

AUSTRALIA should develop a much closer defence relationship with Indonesia instead of trying to build an expeditionary defence force it can't afford to intervene in the region's territorial disputes, says former army chief Peter Leahy.

Now director of Canberra University's National Security Institute, Professor Leahy said that in a xenophobic manner, Australia had spent nearly half a century conjuring up Indonesia as a threat.
