AUSTRALIANS have put the brakes on the number of long hours they claimed to work in the past five years but almost one-fifth are still working more than 49 hours a week.
There's a gender narrative here too: 59 per cent of men and 31 per cent of women -- down 3 per cent and 1 per cent respectively from the 2006 census -- found themselves working 40 hours or more a week. The question is who works the hardest?
