Canberra rallied superbly from a tough few days to end Bendigo's unbeaten start to the WNBL season.
After losing to Adelaide at home on Friday night to open round six, the Capitals rebounded on Sunday and beat the Spirit on the road 59-54.
Carly Wilson top-scored for Canberra with 14 points, while Samantha Norwood contributed eight and had 11 rebounds.
Kristi Harrower had a game-high 21 points for the Spirit, who maintained top spot with their 6-1 record.
Last week, Canberra announced their international star Lauren Jackson would have to postpone her return to the league as she continues to have treatment on a chronic hamstring injury.
They also lost head coach Carrie Graf for at least this weekend after she had to return to Melbourne for personal reasons, with assistant Sandy Tomley taking charge of the team.
The weekend started badly for Canberra when they suffered their first home loss of the season.
Suzy Batkovic and Jo Hill scored 20 apiece as Adelaide beat them 93-81.
But the Lightning's trip went badly awry the following day.
Just as Bendigo's unbeaten start to the season ended this weekend, so did Sydney Uni post their first win.
Import April Sykes scored a round-high 26 points as the Flames beat Adelaide 94-78.
Flames coach Karen Dalton was jubilant at "finally getting off the donut.
"We put more minutes together than we have in the past few games," she said.
Batkovic continued her strong form with 23 points in the surprise loss.
Sydney remained at the foot of the ladder on 1-6 and the Lightning are third on 6-2.
Dandenong posted their third-straight win on Saturday, taking care of Bulleen 91-77 at home.
The Rangers are second on 6-2 after Kathleen Macleod shot 25 and Jenna O'Dea scored 18 points with 11 rebounds.
West Coast split their Queensland road trip, first beating Logan on Friday night 71-56.
But Townsville ended a four-game losing streak on Saturday when they beat the Waves 79-62.
The Fire improved to fifth on 3-4, while West Coast (2-6) are second-last and the Thunder (2-5) are one spot above them.
